After All That

The first collaborative collection

This project is the fruit of artistic interpretations layered upon each other. On a plane ride back home to South Dakota after a first visit to Boston, Kaitlynn decided to text a couple of designer friends to see if they’d be interested in making something from a pile of poems she’d been writing on the stoop in her apartment.

They said yes, and the project officially began.

Process

A collection of poems from Kaitlynn, photographically interpreted by Sam, designed into final form by Chelsea.

At first, the focus was on the handwritten nature of poetry (Kaitlynn wrote the poems by hand on a spiral bound notebook, alternating direction with every flip of the page), but a shift in team members triggered a shift in direction, too: to collage.

Working with local models, Samuel got to work capturing his interpretation of the poems out in some of South Dakota’s State Park. These were then run through Chelsea’s creative lens, resulting in an art show that was on display at the Louise Avenue Coffea Roasterie in Sioux Falls in 2017.
